The old town of Chora of Andros began to be inhabited in the 13th century, at a time when the island was under Frankish occupation. During the 16th century Chora was a small but densely populated settlement built on the edge of the cape, fenced by walls with all the houses inside the walls, leaving the plains on either side of the cape for crops. In 1674 the city was destroyed and abandoned until 1750, where it began to be inhabited again.
